Sometimes, a pair of jacks is required. Depending on the variation, a player with two pairs may be required to place a higher limit than a player with a single pair.
Poker can be played with any number of players. Typically, a minimum of six or eight players is needed. During the American Civil War, a game called stud was introduced. Two-thirds of the high-stakes games in the United States were stud games. Traditionally, stud poker is played with a set limit.
Another type of poker game is called strip poker. It is also a single-player game, but it is a little more complex. In this game, the dealer shuffles the cards and deals them to each player in turn. Once a card is dealt, the player with the lowest hand may bet that he or she has the lowest hand. Other players can then raise the bet, making a wager of more than their original bet, to continue.
The final round of betting is called the showdown. The last player who bets wins the pot. This is usually done by making a bet that no other player has bet before. Normally, a player who makes a bet is called an active player. When a player declines to bet, he or she is called a fold.
